Richard Powers is the author of nine previous novels, most recently The Echo Maker (FSG), which won the National Book Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He has received a MacArthur Fellowship, a Lannan Literary Award, and the James Fenimore Cooper Prize for historical fiction. The story in this issue is adapted from his new novel, Generosity: An Enhancement (FSG), which will be published later this year.
A Public Space is an independent, non-profit publisher of the award-winning literary and arts magazine; and A Public Space Books. Since 2006, under the direction of founding editor Brigid Hughes the mission of A Public Space has been to seek out and support overlooked and unclassifiable work.
