David Shields’s most recent book, The Thing About Life Is That One Day You’ll Be Dead (Knopf), was a New York Times bestseller. He has received a Guggenheim fellowship, NEA fellowships, an Ingram Merrill Foundation Award, a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. He lives in Seattle, where he is a professor in the English department at the University of Washington.
A Public Space is an independent, non-profit publisher of the award-winning literary and arts magazine; and A Public Space Books. Since 2006, under the direction of founding editor Brigid Hughes the mission of A Public Space has been to seek out and support overlooked and unclassifiable work.
