Author

Lídia Jorge was born in Boliqueime, Portugal, in 1946. Her first novel, O Dia dos Prodígios, placed her in the avant-garde of contemporary Portuguese literature and since then she has received numerous awards for her work, including the Premio Luso-Español de Arte y Cultura. Among her books available in English translation are The Murmuring Coast (Minnesota) and The Painter of Birds (Harcourt). She lives in Lisbon.
