Samanta Schweblin won the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and the Concurso Nacional Haroldo Conti in 2001 for her first book, El núcleo del Disturbio (Planeta). Her story in this issue is from her book, Pajaros en la Boca (Planeta), which won the Casa de las Américas Literary Prize.
